“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”

Margaret Mead

I work with local councils and community groups to develop programs that support Place Based Social Entrepreneurship.

I do this by adopting a combination of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and Human Centered Design.

1) Mapping stage

The first stage uses the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) framework to build an understanding of what are the existing building blocks already available in the community to build a social enterprise ecosystem

Whereas needs-based community development emphasizes local deficits and looks to outside agencies for resources, asset-based community development focuses on honing and leveraging existing strengths within the community.

2) Community development stage

Engagement with the local community using a Human-Centered Design approach that consists of three phases.

2.1 The Inspiration Phase: work directly with the local community and existing social entrepreneurs to understand their needs and aspirations;

2.2 Ideation Phase: together with relevant stakeholders, we identify opportunities for design, prototype and piloting for possible solutions.

2.3 Implementation Phase involves bring those solutions to life creating a vibrant social enterprise ecosystem

Commenting on the launch of OSEP “I am delighted to be here to mark the start of this excellent opportunity for Oxfordshire and its social entrepreneurs locally. OSEP is one of eight regional hubs for Social Enterprise supported by UnLtd, nationally, and was one of the strongest bids our judges received. There’s an exciting future ahead, which I watch with interest.”

Cliff Prior

CEO, UnLtd

Commenting on OSEP’s winning bid to make Oxfordshire the first Social Enterprise County in England: “We are pleased to recognise Oxfordshire as our very first county ‘hotspot’ for Social Enterprise. Our aim is to help celebrate the excellent work taking place across the county, promote its successes and support its growth by raising awareness”.

Peter Holbrook

CEO, Social Enterprise UK.
